It maps the jurisdiction of the environments—institutional, technical, and social—that shape how thought itself becomes possible, likely, and constrained.
The Jurisdiction of the Book#
Personal orientation is a necessary foundation, but it is insufficient on its own because human beings always think and act inside shaped environments. Cognitive Ecology addresses the complex fields that distribute attention, allocate information, structure incentives, and direct influence. By situating cognition within these fields, the book exposes the invisible architectures that condition human judgment and agency. Its focus remains strictly on the ecological conditions that make certain forms of thought and action viable while foreclosing others.
